Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

This past week, I attended an orchid show INSIDE the Crystal Bridge of the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City. Seeing how I wasn’t planning on attending, I did not have my camera. Needless to say, I could not walk by these beautiful flowers without snapping something, so out came my iPhone. My 4gs does a great job on closeups, so without further introduction; here is the INSIDES of some orchids!

Did not catch any of the names of these beauties, but this one was very unique!

This one is not a close up because I loved the Star Fish look of its petals.

It is frigid here again today; so I’m staying INSIDE with a good book!  Have a blessed week!

Selfies by Allen

From my friend Lilly who does such beautiful bird photos!

A p r o n h e a d -- Lilly

163 - Copy Actually, it might not be an Allen’s Hummingbird; it might be a female Rufous.  The more I search, the more confused I get.  Even some of the male Rufous are red-brown.  So I figure if I sound really convinced, maybe I’ll be right by default. 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Selfie

Okay, I don’t do selfies, because I don’t like to be photographed. But for this challenge, I snapped a selfie of me while indulging in another one of my passions: Repurposing! Its not very glamorous or attractive, but its what I do!

I like to paint using my air sprayer, but when working with lacquer based paints, especially white, it can get very messy! I try to cover up as much of myself as possible to keep the paint out of my hair, off my skin and out of any orifices, but it doesn't always work. I'll be sneezing white for a week! I may not make a very pretty picture, but my pieces will!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object II

Here are some Objects from another place! At least another place for me.  🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

You wouldn’t think it would be so difficult to find an “object” image; but when I went searching, I found I was a bit picky and none really tickled my fancy. Then I located some art shots I took when I worked at the newspaper. Well, two were paper shots and the other was an assignment for a class I was taking at the time.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition.

This is an interesting and often confusing word. An online dictionary defines it as:

jux·ta·po·si·tion

[juhk-stuh-puh-zish-uhn] Show IPA

noun

1. an act or instance of placing close together or side by side, especially for comparison or contrast.
2. the state of being close together or side by side.
I had always been taught that in photography, juxtaposition defined a composition that was in sharp contrast either in style, function or idea.  Kind of like Beauty and the Beast.
I love this old forgotten home surrounded by equally forgotten wild miniature roses.

Here are a few images I have that signify juxtaposition to me.

Nature vs. Machine

Nature vs. Machine

To be so near and yet so far away; the St. Louis Arch has been photographed so many ways, it was difficult to get a truly unique image. I basically stood with my back to the arch and bent over backwards to get this angle.

An example of man reaching toward God.

Glass spires stretch towards the pillow-soft clouds in the sky. Truly near and far.

Another example of the contrast between man-made and the heavens!

The animalistic graffiti against the elegant gracefulness of this lover's bench, struck me as sad.

I love the metal cross atop the fence panel nestled against the Rose of Sharon. This actually more ironic than juxtaposed.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Playing With Fire II

These fire images were taken in my burn pit with my camera phone as part of a month long experiment with Phonography. The first is of the actual fire and the second is of the aftermath.

There is an ethereal quality of fire that captures our gaze and makes us want to reach out and caress it. But the sane person knows never to be fooled by the seductress. Taken with my iPhone 4s. I used Camera+ and edited with the HDR feature.

The intensity of fire consumes all that is in its wake leaving only the skeletal remains of old doors and couches. Again, taken with my iPhone.
