Weekly Photo Challange & Prayer Request: Spring

Spring signifies life; and with all this budding of life that is surrounding all of us this time of year, I am sadden by death.

My daddy-n-law, who is one of the most awesome guys I know is loosing his battle with this life. He is 84 and has COPD for a long time. Yesterday, we brought him home to die. He is ready and even a bit excited to leave this mortal world of pain and loneliness (his beloved wife passed 10 years ago), but he grieves for our sadness.

As you look at these few images of spring in Oklahoma, please say a little prayer for AC that his passing will be gentle and surrounded by those who love and adore him. Thank you.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Reflection

Whether its in glass, water, chrome or a mirror, light and images can be captured and reflected back for a view that is just a little bit tweaked! Often distorted, sometimes funny and always beautiful, reflections capture the imagination and the shutter time of many photographers. Here are a few of mine ranging from planned portraits to moments of opportunities, but always some of my favorites.

Enjoy!

Beautiful lights, cold crisp night and a still pond make for a perfect picture.

This is one I did for a car show piece I was covering. How to capture classic in a new and interesting way? This was my solution.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside

This past week, I attended an orchid show INSIDE the Crystal Bridge of the Myriad Gardens in Oklahoma City. Seeing how I wasn’t planning on attending, I did not have my camera. Needless to say, I could not walk by these beautiful flowers without snapping something, so out came my iPhone. My 4gs does a great job on closeups, so without further introduction; here is the INSIDES of some orchids!

Did not catch any of the names of these beauties, but this one was very unique!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Selfie

Okay, I don’t do selfies, because I don’t like to be photographed. But for this challenge, I snapped a selfie of me while indulging in another one of my passions: Repurposing! Its not very glamorous or attractive, but its what I do!

I like to paint using my air sprayer, but when working with lacquer based paints, especially white, it can get very messy! I try to cover up as much of myself as possible to keep the paint out of my hair, off my skin and out of any orifices, but it doesn't always work. I'll be sneezing white for a week! I may not make a very pretty picture, but my pieces will!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object II

Here are some Objects from another place! At least another place for me.  🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

You wouldn’t think it would be so difficult to find an “object” image; but when I went searching, I found I was a bit picky and none really tickled my fancy. Then I located some art shots I took when I worked at the newspaper. Well, two were paper shots and the other was an assignment for a class I was taking at the time.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Playing With Fire II

These fire images were taken in my burn pit with my camera phone as part of a month long experiment with Phonography. The first is of the actual fire and the second is of the aftermath.

There is an ethereal quality of fire that captures our gaze and makes us want to reach out and caress it. But the sane person knows never to be fooled by the seductress. Taken with my iPhone 4s. I used Camera+ and edited with the HDR feature.

The intensity of fire consumes all that is in its wake leaving only the skeletal remains of old doors and couches. Again, taken with my iPhone.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Playing With Fire I

I love fire. I love how beautiful and dangerous it is. It can create and destroy is one simple moment. As a photojournalist, I have taken many images of house and business fires, but the most serene aspect of fire can be found in a simple bon fire. These images were taken at a local sporting event’s Pep Rally.
