Let There Be LIFE

I always get giddy when, after the deadness of winter, life begins to show up around my place. Although I have a notorious brown thumb, blooms and buds seem to somehow survive the winter and me! I think is is appropriate we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus during the spring when new life abounds around us to remind us that HE too died and rose again, for us. Happy Easter

Intermixed with all the green, the burnt red of this oak leaf add more color and depth to my landscape

Tiny Cyprus buds. This tree in the pine family looses is needles every fall, littering my yard not only with their large bumpy knees, but also an abundance of rust-colored needles!

Flowers and warts: The redbud tree – Oklahoma’s State tree – gets many of these “wart-like” growths along branches and they are usually surrounded by more buds.

This very tiny offshoot resembles the larger version of itself.

I shot this in color and converted to black and white, then took it one step further by bringing back the color of the buds in the next image.

I love the way - in the absence of limbs - the buds will find a way to bloom! I think they are my favorite part of this tree.

My redbud tree (sadly beginning to die off) gives me many opportunities for spring photos. Silhouetted against a bright and beautiful spring sky brings happiness and hope.

Don't be fooled by this large bloom, it is in fact just over a 1/4 inch across. Creeping phlox are the first to show their bright faces as they carpet my garden path!

Merry Christmas!

The day before our first hard freeze, I went out and shot a few shots around my yard. I am so very thankful to live in a mostly rural area; The beauty of nature brings me peace.

Happy Fall!

Touches of Color: 3

I love everything about pumpkins (well except the taste!) This one was caught in a light rain.

I love everything about pumpkins (well except the taste). This fellow was glistening from a rainy day.

These autumn beauties were taken at a local pumpkin patch on a very rainy day.

Did a little antiquing and grunging on these fellows!

Okay, I know I said Touch of Color, but sometimes b&W is just striking, especially when you have so much contrast!

Touch of Color 2

I love the contrast from the brilliant green of the velvety moss and the warm fall colors of fallen leaves.

Not the brilliant orange and reds, but this ash tree has a color all its own.

A Touch of Color 1

Here in central Oklahoma, the colors are just beginning to change. I love fall for all it offers, especially the colors.

Over the last few days, I have taken images around my yard and at a nearby pumpkin patch. I will be post a couple each day; I also wanted to show off my newest software, the NIK Collection, which is AWESOME! It has definitely made my life easier (if not more time consuming) in the area of photo editing.

A Red Maple during a light rain. This is a straight shot using my D800 and editing in Potoshop. I further edited it in Viveza 2, part of the NIK software collection.

This is the same as the first shot, but I took it into HDR Efex Pro 2 to give it more attention. I'm loving this software.

More Phonegraphy

I get a brand new camera, a new flash, a couple of lenses, a new tripod and what do I do? Go out a take photos with my phone, what else?

The truth is, with all this new equipment, I still don’t have anything to take macro shots with, and well, I love macro. Especially when it comes to all the bright colors that fall has to offer.

However, in my neck of the woods, the leaves are just beginning to turn (I have one in my yard – that is ONE leaf). But after this weekends dip into the 30s perhaps the colors will prevail. But I did just plant a plethora of pansies all with pretty faces and colors. This would have been a great for the saturation photo challenge!

So without further ado:
